Job Description

Help shape the future of ELMO’s Payroll product, a core platform used by HR admins across ANZ and now trusted by 900+ customers. ELMO is The Complete Australian HR Software Platform servicing customers from hire to retire employee lifecycles. We’re looking for a Senior Product Owner to lead the Payroll roadmap, partnering closely with engineering, design and our customers to deliver a modern, AI-enabled experience for HR teams. Desired Skills and Experience

Key Responsibilities:

The core responsibilities of a Senior Product Owner includes, but are not limited to:

  • Product strategy & roadmap
    • Shape and communicate a clear product vision for Payroll that aligns with ELMO’s strategy and GTM plans.
    • Translate that vision into an actionable roadmap, balancing customer value, commercial impact and technical constraints.
  • Customer & market insight
    • Go deep on the world of HR admins – their workflows, compliance pressures and pains.
    • Understand the competitive landscape (e.g. Workday, UKG, Employment Hero/KeyPay, Ceridian, workforce management tools) and where ELMO Payroll can differentiate.
  • Backlog ownership & delivery
    • Own the product backlog for the Payroll squad – from epics to thin, testable slices of value.
    • Run prioritisation and sprint planning, working closely with engineering, QA and design to keep delivery focused and predictable.
    • Define clear user stories and acceptance criteria that are easy for engineers to build and test.
    • Own and meticulously manage the product backlog, including refinement, prioritisation (e.g., RICE evaluation), and story point estimation.
    • Break down initiatives and epics into thin, valuable slices of work using techniques like story mapping or MoSCoW.
    • Actively seek and incorporate feedback from customer-facing teams and other stakeholders to refine and prioritise work.
  • APIs, platforms & portability
    • Work with architects and engineers to evolve Payroll as a platform, including APIs and integrations.
    • Support our portability strategy, helping customers move between engines and connected products (e.g. KeyPay, Definitiv, Affinity, Datapay, PayMetrics) with minimal friction.
  • Stakeholder alignment
    • Partner with Customer Success, Implementation, Sales and Support to ensure we’re solving the right problems for the right customers.
    • Communicate progress, risks and decisions clearly to leaders and non‑technical stakeholders.
