Job Description

About the opportunity...

Are you ready to take on a pivotal role in our engineering team? Do you have a passion for solving complex technical problems and driving innovation? We are seeking a skilled Technical Lead to join our dynamic team and lead the charge in technical excellence.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Technical Lead plays a dual role, combining individual technical expertise with team leadership responsibilities. As a technical expert, you will guide and mentor team members, solve intricate technical challenges, and contribute to the development of high-quality, scalable software products. Additionally, you will lead the team in aligning technical solutions with business objectives and reducing technical debt.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and actively maintain the technical debt backlog.
  • Complete High-level estimates and conduct spikes to de-risk these estimates.
  • Determine and document technical/architectural solutions.
  • Developing the technical vision and roadmap to align with business objectives and broader ELMO Architecture.
  • Assess new technologies and see-through adoption.
  • Incident response and mitigation.
  • Ensure quality and security practices meet outcomes (test coverage, reviews, production monitoring, OWASP and cybersecurity etc.).
  • Technical alignment (ensure consistency and speed in technical solutions, processes and operation) e.g. Branching Strategies, Pipeline Management, Technical practices, Conventions.
  • Individual engineers are recruited, onboarded, upskilled and continuously technically mentored.
  • Ensure compliance with ELMO’s information security privacy policies and procedures.

Desired Skills and Experience

What we would like to see you bring to the team...

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or any related field
  • Languages & Frameworks: Strong proficiency in modern web technologies (Node.js, React, Python, or similar)
  • Technology Adaptability: Solid foundation in core software engineering principles with demonstrated ability to quickly learn and work effectively across different programming languages and frameworks, including legacy technologies like PHP
  • Architecture: Proven experience with microservices architecture, API design, and system integration patterns
  • Infrastructure: Experience with cloud platforms, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and infrastructure as code
  • Database: Expertise with relational databases and data modeling
  • Security: Understanding of authentication protocols (OAuth, SAML, JWT), API security, and OWASP practices.
  • Team Leadership: 3+ years leading engineering teams with demonstrated success in team building and performance management
  • Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with ability to present to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Agile Methodology: 3-5 years of hands-on experience with Agile/Scrum practices
  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical and creative problem-solving abilities
  • Adaptability: Comfort with ambiguity and ability to thrive in fast-paced, evolving environments
