Job Description

About the opportunity…

 

Reporting to the Operations & Reporting Manager, the Power BI Developer role is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining business intelligence solutions using Power BI. This involves collaborating with stakeholders to gather requirements, creating and managing data models, transforming data, and developing interactive reports and dashboards to provide actionable insights.

The core role of the Power BI Developer includes but is not limited to:

  • Design, develop, and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and data models.
  • Gather, analyse, and document business requirements to translate them into effective data solutions.
  • Work with stakeholders to ensure reporting solutions meet business needs.
  • Optimise Power BI performance, including DAX calculations and data refresh schedules.
  • Create and maintain data models, connecting to various data sources and ensuring data integrity.
  • Transform and manipulate data using Power Query (M) to prepare it for analysis.
  • Write DAX expressions to create calculated columns and measures for advanced analytics.
  • Ensure data integrity and accuracy (regularly review reports and dashboards to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and alignment with organisational strategy).
  • Ensure data handling procedures align with our Information Security and privacy policies.
  • Support data architecture (work with the Data Team to ensure the Redshift environment is properly structured and optimised to support reporting needs).
  • Troubleshoot data and reporting issues, working with internal teams as needed.
  • Provide technical support and training to end-users as needed.
  • Upskill and mentor junior team members (provide guidance and mentorship to the current reporting resources, helping them develop technical skills in Power BI and Redshift).
  • Uphold best practices in report development.
  • Stay up-to-date with Power BI features.
  • Optimise report performance for efficient data loading and visualization.

Desired Skills and Experience

What we would like you to bring to the team...

 

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree with a concentration in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience of minimum three years.
  • Demonstrated 3-5 years’ work experience of agile/scrum methodology.
  • Follow industry best practices.
  • Well-developed communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Minimum 3 years’ PHP Development experience.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience leading the design and implementation of Software Applications.
  • Familiar with Node, React, SQL, JavaScript and CSS.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming.
  • Skill for writing reusable libraries.
  • Familiar with various design and architectural patterns.
  • Knowledge of concurrency patterns.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience with popular web application frameworks.
  • Knack for writing clean, readable, and easily maintainable code.
  • Understanding of fundamental design principles for building a scalable application.
  • Experience creating database schemas that represent and support business processes.
  • Basic understanding of Common Language Runtime (CLR), its limitations, weaknesses, and workarounds Experience implementing automated testing platforms and unit tests.
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as Git, SVN, and Mercurial.
